Cinemalaya 21 Sets Sail
Cinemalaya is back, and it’s stronger than ever.On September 3, 2025, the Shangri-La Plaza East Atrium buzzed with energy as the 21st Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival officially kicked off with a press conference. This year’s theme, “CINEMALAYA 21: LAYAG sa alon, hangin, at unos,” isn’t just a slogan—it’s a reminder of how this festival has endured, adapted, and thrived through every storm of its time.

Festival Director Chris Millado led the charge, unveiling the theme that reflects Cinemalaya’s spirit of resilience. Joining him were Cinemalaya Competition and Monitoring Committee Chairman Carlitos Siguion-Reyna and CCP Vice President and Artistic Director Dennis Marasigan, who announced the official lineup: 10 full-length features and 10 shorts ready to compete for the big stage.
Running from October 3 to 12, 2025, the festival’s main venue will be Shangri-La Plaza—a fitting home for storytellers who push boundaries and audiences who crave something more than the usual.
The press conference also saw big names come together in support of Philippine cinema: CCP President Kaye Tinga, Shangri-La Plaza Corporation’s Senior Retail Marketing Manager Arriane Nadurata, CFI President Laurice Guillen, and FDCP Education Division Head Rica Arevalo.
Guests got the first peek at this year’s omnibus trailer and teasers, and if the energy in the room was any hint, we’re all in for another unforgettable ride.

Cinemalaya has always been more than just a film festival—it’s a movement. A proving ground for daring stories, new voices, and brave filmmakers who refuse to let the tide dictate their direction. And now, with its 21st edition, Cinemalaya continues to sail forward, whatever the waves bring.
Mark your calendars. October 3 to 12. This year, the seas of Philippine independent cinema are wide open.
