Some nights don’t just entertain—they teach, without ever trying too hard. That was exactly the case at Trimex Colleges’ Summer Music Fest at Southwoods Mall last April 6.
It was supposed to be just a concert. What happened instead? A student crowd got hit with a full-spectrum cultural reset. Music, joy, identity, and education—all syncing like a perfectly timed chorus.
🎸 Barbie Almalbis: Stillness That Roars

If there was a core memory moment from that night, it came when Barbie Almalbis walked onstage—unassuming but powerful, like a soft-spoken mentor who doesn’t need to raise her voice to be heard.
Her set was precise but alive. A crash course in artistic presence. She didn’t just play songs—she showed us what it looks like to stay anchored in your own voice. With guitar riffs that felt both nostalgic and fresh, Barbie reminded us that authenticity isn’t an aesthetic—it’s a decision.
The crowd—mostly students—wasn’t screaming like they would at a pop act. They were locked in. Watching. Absorbing. Learning.
🎤 The Lineup That Understood the Assignment
Yeng Constantino came in like a lightning bolt—one part therapist, one part riot. Her anthems had students belting at the top of their lungs, tears and selfies happening in real time. And that’s Yeng’s genius: she makes you feel like her lyrics belong to you.

Armi Millare, ever the atmosphere architect, slowed things down without losing a drop of attention. Her voice hovered—delicate and commanding—and for a moment, Southwoods Mall felt like an entirely different planet.

Then came SunKissed Lola, whose chemistry and groove turned the concrete floor into a soft, swaying sea. Their genre-mix sorcery had people who’d never heard them before suddenly acting like lifelong fans.
Maki シ delivered undeniable Gen Z pop flavor, light and vibey but with a strong emotional undercurrent. Think bedroom playlists and late-night feelings.
DJ Phillip Japor dropped beats like exclamation points, keeping the energy up between acts and turning waiting time into dance time.

And of course, the night wouldn’t have been complete without the full theatrical takeover by drag icons Maxie Andreison, Angel Galang, and Popstar Bench Suarez Hipolito—each performance a fearless expression of beauty, identity, and unapologetic joy.

📚 When Education Meets Culture
Trimex Colleges didn’t just host a show. They designed an experience that reinforced what learning can—and should—look like.

In that space, Barbie was a teacher, Yeng was a reminder, Armi was a reset, and the crowd became the curriculum.
Where music is more than background noise.
Where performances create safe space.
Where students are not just spectators, but part of the collective energy.
